Early dawn of September 6, 2025 (Japan time), the Mine-Akiyoshidai Geopark’s application for UNESCO Global Geopark status was deliberated at the UNESCO Global Geoparks Council meeting held in Chile, and the decision of “acknowledgment recommendation” was made.

Once the application is approved by resolution at the UNESCO Executive Board meeting next spring, Mine-Akiyoshidai Geopark will be formally designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark.

Upon becoming certified, Mine-Akiyoshidai Geopark will become Japan’s 11^th UNESCO Global Geopark.

As members of the Global Geoparks Network, we express our deep respect for the dedicated efforts of everyone at Mine-Akiyoshidai Geopark. We look forward to continuing our collaboration as members of the network and working together to invigorate geopark activities.
