(The following is the report from Muroto Geopark Geological Specialist)

The theme of the forum was, “Let’s Learn and Enjoy UNESCO Global Geoparks and Biosphere Reserves!”, where geopark representatives from eight Asian countries gathered.

Hantangang World Geopark is designated as both a UNESCO Global Geopark and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Discussions focused on the potential for conservation and community development through collaboration between these two programs.

Muroto Geopark is not designated as an biosphere reserve, but as a national park, efforts are underway to protect its coastal landscapes and vegetation. This time, the geology specialist gave an oral presentation on the theme “The Relationship Between Geoparks and Environmental Conservation Activities,” covering coastal cleanup activities conducted in Muroto and educational programs addressing marine debris issues.

Additionally, at the Japan Geopark Network (JGN) booth, jointly exhibited by 10 regions within Japan, Muroto presented an interactive exhibit titled “Dr. Magari’s Challenge in Hantangang.” This interactive activity challenged participants to arrange rocks in order of magnetic attraction using magnets. It was well-received by local children and geopark representatives from various countries.

Geopark activities are supported by a network that goes beyond regions.

At this forum, we were able to exchange views with participants from various countries and discuss possibilities for future collaboration and cooperation.

We will utilize the insights and connections gained through this international exchange in the future activities of Muroto Geopark.

Please continue to follow the initiatives of Muroto Geopark.
